The Minister for Education, Gilbert Licudi QC, introduced the Gibraltar Lecture at the Oxford Literary Festival this past weekend.
The Gibraltar Lecture is delivered each year at the festival and is devoted to matters of major cultural, historical or international importance, at the invitation of Her Majesty's Government of Gibraltar.
This year, the lecture was given by Boyd Tonkin, an award-winning journalist and literary editor.
Mr Tonkin spoke about how Gibraltar has featured in literature and poetry over the years. He made references to works such as James Joyce's Ulysses and other works by renowned authors like Colleridge and Thakeray.
In introducing the lecture, Mr Licudi extended an invitation to the audience to the fourth edition of the Gibunco Gibraltar International Literary Festival due to take place in October of this year. The Festival is now one of the main highlights of Gibraltar's cultural calendar and is acquiring a growing international reputation with each successive edition.
