HM Customs this morning intercepted four men removing master cases of cigarettes from a locally registered vehicle at the north end of Eastern Beach Road.
Customs secured the vehicle and found that it contained 13 master cases (650 cartons). A chase on foot ensued where a further 98 cartons were seized by officers.
A spokesperson for HM Customs said that the men made good their escape but they continue to investigate the matter.
The seized cigarettes have a retail value of around £15,000.
