The Ambassador of the Czech Republic, His Excellency Libor Secka, arrived in Gibraltar on the 14th July 2016 together with Consul General Pavel Hajfler. Their visit marked the official opening of an Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic in Gibraltar, following the appointment earlier this year of Mr Stanislav Čech as Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic to the UK in Gibraltar.
The Czech Honorary Consulate will be in the Cloister Building (Blands).
This is the first time the Czech Republic has opened an honorary consulate in Gibraltar, and the first time for there to be any kind of Czech representation in Gibraltar since 1848 (under the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy).
Beyond providing assistance to Czech nationals (with over 12,000 visitors to Gibraltar each year) Honorary Consul Mr Stanislav Čech hopes to build stronger links between the Czech Republic and Gibraltar in three fields in particular: tourism; economic and commercial cooperation; and education.
