On Friday 19th August, the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (GFSC) and other Gibraltar organisations wore shorts to work to raise awareness and funds for Prostate Cancer Support Group Gibraltar.

The Free the Knee event was first carried out last year by the GFSC internally. The event was a great success and this year the staff at the GFSC wanted to take it Gibraltar-wide and get as many people involved as possible. Organisations in Gibraltar were encouraged to do away with their normal Friday dress code, and to wear shorts and raise awareness and funds for Prostate Cancer Support Group Gibraltar.

This year, a total of £4,815.43 has been raised so far for the charity; a combination of money raised by the GFSC and other organisations.

Staff at the GFSC wore shorts to work, had a bake sale and a special lunch to raise money and some male staff members were sponsored to have their legs waxed. Other organisations also wore shorts and organised lunches to raise funds.

Samantha Barrass, GFSC CEO commented: "The GFSC is in its 25th year as an organisation, and we will be marking it through every staff member contributing personal time to a programme of charity and community work and fun that celebrates 25 years of supporting Gibraltar. Free the Knee was the first of these events, and we look forward to the next one".

The GFSC challenged organisations to take a photo wearing their shorts, and to tag the GFSC on Facebook; the idea being that the photo with most likes by the end of the deadline would win a number of prizes. Congratulations to PwC Gibraltar who were the winners of the competition.

The event was a great success, raising support and funds for the charity, and the GFSC is hoping to make this an annual event.
