Royal Gibraltar Police and Gibraltar Defence Police Renew Commitment to Partnership Through Updated Memorandum of Understanding
The Commissioner of the Royal Gibraltar Police, Owain Richards, and the Chief of Police of the Gibraltar Defence Police, John McVea, signed an updated Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 8 September 2026 at Gibraltar Defence Police Headquarters.
The renewed agreement reaffirms the long-standing partnership between the Royal Gibraltar Police (RGP) and the Gibraltar Defence Police (GDP), strengthening their commitment to working closely together in the interests of public safety and security across Gibraltar.
The updated MOU provides clarity on the arrangements through which both organisations will continue to support one another operationally when required. It reflects a shared commitment to collaboration, information sharing, and mutual assistance, ensuring that both forces are best placed to respond effectively to the needs of the community and the wider Gibraltar area.
Speaking following the signing ceremony, Chief of Police John McVea said:
“The signing of this MOU brings clarity to how each force can and will mutually support the other. It represents a clear commitment from both policing organisations to work together to ensure a safe Gibraltar.”
Commissioner Owain Richards welcomed the renewed agreement, highlighting the importance of close cooperation between the two organisations in maintaining public confidence, security, and operational effectiveness.
