New Online Registration Platform for Food Delivery Drivers – Employment Status Checks and Card Requirement
The Ministry of Transport has today launched the Delivery Driver Registration platform, a new online service through which all food delivery drivers must now apply for their Delivery Driver Card.
The launch is the next step in the regulatory framework for the food delivery sector first announced by the Minister for Transport last year, and now underpinned by the Food Delivery Service Act 2025 and the Food Delivery Service Regulations 2026.
Drivers can create an account, submit their application and upload their documents online at delivery-driver-registration.egov.gi . Applications are then checked by Customer Care Hub staff, and applicants are informed when their card is ready to be collected from the Customer Care Hub, 323 Main Street.
Employment status is checked on every application
Every application will be checked against Department of Employment records (Erasmus). No Delivery Driver Card will be issued to any driver who is not properly registered with the Department of Employment. The company named in the application must be the company with which the driver is registered.
The Government urges both drivers and food delivery businesses to make sure that every driver's employment is correctly registered before an application is made. This is a central purpose of the framework: to ensure that everyone delivering food in Gibraltar is legally employed.
What every food delivery driver must have
Under the new legislation, every food delivery driver must, while working:
• hold a valid Delivery Driver Card;
• wear a marked uniform bearing the branding of the company they work for; and
• use a marked delivery box bearing that company's branding.
Fines, amnesty and enforcement
Drivers who do not comply with these requirements may be issued with a fixed penalty notice of £300.
An amnesty will apply to the card requirement only, until 1st December 2026, to give drivers time to register and obtain their card through the new platform. The amnesty does not apply to any other requirement. The requirements for a marked uniform and a marked delivery box, together with all other provisions of the legislation, will be enforced with immediate effect by the Royal Gibraltar Police and Transport Inspectors.

Prof John Cortes, Minister for Transport, said,
"This new platform makes it quick and simple for delivery drivers to apply for their card from their phone. But I want to be absolutely clear: no card will be issued unless a driver is properly registered with the Department of Employment. This framework exists to make sure that the people delivering to our homes are legally employed, properly identified and working in decent conditions. I urge every driver and every delivery company to get registered now."
