GCAB organises coffee morning to celebrate Grandparents’ Day
Gibraltar Citizen’s Advice Bureau (GCAB) marked Grandparents’ Day by hosting a coffee and churros breakfast for representatives of the different senior citizens associations and organisations that help the elderly in our community. The event was to recognise the contribution grandparents and older people make to families and the wider community.
Grandparents’ Day is on Sunday 4th October 2026 with the theme ‘Love Grows Through Generations’, to highlight the love, guidance and practical support grandparents provide.
Pili Rodriguez, CEO of Gibraltar Citizen’s Advice Bureau, said;
“This event gave recognition to all those grandparents and older people who care for their grandchildren while parents work. Their support makes an enormous difference to families and deserves our appreciation.
“It also recognised the values grandparents instil in our community. Through their experience, kindness and guidance, they pass on traditions, teach respect and help strengthen the bonds between generation.
We would like to thank King’s Bastion Leisure Centre for hosting our senior citizens during our coffee and churros breakfast.”

GCAB Chairman Ivan Navas also acknowledged its volunteers who balance caring for their grandchildren with giving their time to support others through the Bureau’s services.
Minister for Equality, Employment, Culture and Tourism, the Hon. Christian Santos GMD MP, attended the event and said;
“Grandparents and older persons in our community are crucial to our family units and to the volunteering sector in our community. Last week marked the International Day of Older Persons and the Ministry of Equality is committed to supporting initiatives that promote inclusion and companionship.”
GCAB encourages everyone to mark the occasion by showing their grandparents their appreciation and by reaching out to any older person they may know.
