Professor Daniella Tilbury was invited by the UNECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe) to attend Expert Group meetings which took place in Geneva on the 3rd and 4th May.
As a multilateral platform, UNECE facilitates greater economic integration and cooperation among its member countries and promotes sustainable development and economic prosperity through a number of areas including policy dialogue, development of regulations and technical cooperation for countries with economies in transition.
Taking place at Geneva’s Palais des Nations, the meetings focused on Sustainable Development Goals and progress in implementing global and regional strategies and priority actions. On the 4th May, Prof Tilbury presented an overview of developments internationally and included reference to the ClimACT Project which brings together the University with government agencies, schools and various stakeholders to address sustainable development through education. Whilst in Geneva, she attended meetings at UNCTAD Headquarters, discussed plans for the Centre of Excellence which is housed at the University of Gibraltar and a CITIES international governmental meeting which takes place in Gibraltar later this month. Prof Tilbury has been asked to lead a strategic planning stream for the Expert Group which will bring members of the Steering Committee to Gibraltar in early autumn.
