The Minister for Shipping, the Hon Albert Isola MP, hosted a reception at the Foreign Correspondents' Club in Hong Kong on Monday 11th April.
Some 50 senior representatives from the Hong Kong shipping community attended the event, together with a number of members from Gibraltar's port community including shipping agents and bunker suppliers. Captain of the Port, Bob Sanguinetti, introduced the Minister who subsequently addressed the gathering, highlighting the benefits of doing maritime related business at Gibraltar. The Minister also attended meetings with the Chairman and Managing Director of the Hong Kong Shipowners' Association and with senior executives from one of Hong Kong's largest shipowners interested in developing closer links with Gibraltar Port.
Minister Isola commented that 'this trade mission to Singapore and Hong Kong, both significant strategic hubs in the shipping world, serves to reinforce the Port of Gibraltar's reputation as a centre of maritime excellence, and allows us to better understand the needs of the maritime community so that we can further improve our service. The beauty of this visit is that we are offering reliable solutions and services for their fleets in the Mediterranean, a message that has been well received.’
