Ministry of Equality to Host Afternoon Tea for International Day of Older Persons

The Ministry of Equality will be marking the United Nations International Day of Older Persons on Thursday 1st October with a special Afternoon Tea for older members of the community at the Calpe Rowing Club from 4:30pm to 6:30pm.

This is an opportunity for older persons to come together, socialise and enjoy an afternoon of tea, refreshments and live music, with entertainment provided by Jonathan Fernandez during the afternoon.

The Ministry of Equality would like to thank Calpe Rowing Club for kindly supporting the event by facilitating their venue and Jonathan Fernandez for generously giving his time and performing at the event. Their support and contribution towards this community event are greatly appreciated.

The event forms part of the Ministry of Equality’s ongoing programme of initiatives aimed at promoting the wellbeing, inclusion and active participation of older persons in Gibraltar. It also builds on the Ministry’s continued engagement with older members of the community through its Age Symposiums and other initiatives which have highlighted the importance of social interaction and opportunities for older persons to remain connected and actively involved in community life.

The event is free to attend, however, registration is required and spaces are limited. Those wishing to attend are encouraged to register early by contacting the Ministry of Equality on Tel: 200 66819 or by emailing equality.events@gibraltar.gov.gi

Minister for Equality, Employment, Culture and Tourism, the Hon Christian Santos GMD MP, said: “The International Day of Older Persons gives us an important opportunity to celebrate the contributions that older persons continue to make to our community. Just as importantly, it reminds us of the value of creating opportunities for people to come together, socialise and remain connected.

"I am therefore very pleased that we will be marking the occasion with an Afternoon Tea where older members of our community can enjoy each other’s company in a relaxed and welcoming environment. Social connections play an important role in our wellbeing at every stage of life, and I hope that this event will provide another opportunity to strengthen those connections, make new ones and, most importantly, enjoy the afternoon together.
