Gibraltar Youth Service returns from Luce Foundation Residential to Jersey

The Gibraltar Youth Service has returned from the Luce Foundation Residential to Jersey 2026.

The residential programme was made possible through the valued support of the Luce Foundation Trust, with whom the Youth Service has enjoyed a long and positive relationship over many years.

Nine Young Leaders within the Youth Service were selected to take part in the residential in recognition of their commitment, participation and dedication. A key focus of the exchange was to bring together young people from Gibraltar and Jersey to build meaningful connections, explore the similarities between their communities and build friendships.

The programme included a foraging walk, abseiling and pier jumping at St Aubin’s Fort; outdoor education and adventurous activities, including rope climbing and archery at Crabbe, Jersey’s Centre for Outdoor Learning; an e-bike route from St Helier to Corbière Lighthouse; visits to places of cultural and historical interest, including Jersey Zoo and the Jersey War Tunnels, and a surfing lesson in the iconic St Ouen’s Bay. Lord Luce and his son joined the Gibraltar group and Jersey Youth Service staff and service users at Crabbe for the day.

Every aspect of the residential was embraced with enthusiasm, energy, teamwork and a willingness to step outside comfort zones. The young peoples’ attitude throughout the week reflected the very best of youth work in action and highlighted the value of providing opportunities that broaden horizons and support personal growth.

The Gibraltar Youth Service looks forward to providing similar opportunities in the future and is deeply grateful to the Jersey Youth Service for their outstanding support and to Lord Luce and the Luce Foundation Trust for their longstanding support for youth work and outdoor education.
