Applications open for third cycle of Skills for Care Apprenticeship
The Ministry of Equality, Employment, Culture and Tourism and the Ministry for Health and Care, in collaboration with the Care Agency, are pleased to announce that applications are now open for the third cycle of the Skills for Care Apprenticeship.
Building on the success of the previous two cycles, the programme provides a structured pathway into the care sector, combining classroom-based training with practical experience in real care settings.
The first cycle saw 12 apprentices successfully complete the programme, with a further 11 applicants successfully selected for the second cycle. The third cycle builds on this progress, continuing to provide participants with the skills, experience and practical training needed to pursue a career in care.
Participants in the third cycle will once again have the opportunity to earn whilst they learn, developing the practical knowledge, professional skills and hands-on experience required to progress into roles as Care Workers.
The programme forms part of the Government's wider commitment to investing in local skills and developing a capable and compassionate workforce to support Gibraltar's care services.
Minister for Health and Care, the Hon Gemma Arias-Vasquez MP, said:

The Skills for Care Apprenticeship gives participants the opportunity to gain valuable practical experience while developing the knowledge and skills needed to build a successful career in care. I am pleased to see the programme enter its third cycle and to continue working with our partners to strengthen the workforce supporting care services in Gibraltar.”

The programme is open to applicants aged 18 and over who meet the eligibility requirements of the applicable Government employment scheme.

Applicants must also provide two reference letters, in accordance with the Care Agency's Safer Recruitment Policy. One reference should be from the applicant's current or most recent employer. References from relatives will not be accepted.
Both reference letters must be emailed to meect@gibraltar.gov.gi
Successful applicants will also be required to satisfy the Care Agency's safer recruitment, safeguarding and pre-employment requirements before commencing their placement.
The deadline for the online application form and receipt of both reference letters is 12:00 noon on Friday 2nd October 2026.
