Ministry of Equality Announces Further Events to Mark International Day of Older Persons

The Ministry of Equality will mark International Day of Older Persons with a programme of free events throughout October, bringing members of the community together through entertainment, intergenerational engagement and creative activities.

An important part of the programme is the third Age Symposium which will take place on Monday 5 October at the Mayor’s Parlour. This event will be particularly special, as it will bring the Age Symposium and participation from the Youth Service together for the first time in an interactive, workshop-style event.

This event will provide a unique opportunity for younger and older generations to exchange experiences, explore different perspectives and learn from one another in an engaging and welcoming environment. Through discussion and interactive activities, participants will be encouraged to make new connections and help strengthen understanding between generations.

Registration for the Symposium is essential. Any older person wishing to take part can register by telephoning 200 66819 or emailing equality.events@gibraltar.gov.gi

The Ministry of Equality has also collaborated with the Gibraltar Horticultural Society to offer a series of free creative workshops for older persons. The workshops will start on Wednesday 7th October and take place every Wednesday throughout the month of October. These sessions provide an enjoyable opportunity for participants to explore their creativity, develop new interests and socialise with others in a friendly and relaxed setting.

The Ministry encourages older persons, young people and members of the wider community to take part in the programme and join in celebrating the valuable contribution that older persons make to Gibraltar.

“International Day of Older Persons gives us an important opportunity to recognise and celebrate the immense contribution that older persons make to our families and to Gibraltar’s wider community. We have developed a varied programme that creates opportunities to socialise, explore new interests and build stronger connections across generations. I am particularly pleased that under the framework of the Age Symposium, we will bring older persons and young people together for the first time and that they will share their experiences and perspectives in a positive and engaging environment.
