Minister John Cortes Holds South District Constituency Meeting

Minister John Cortes held a further South District constituency meeting on Thursday, providing residents with an opportunity to raise local concerns, discuss ongoing improvements and receive updates on matters affecting the area.

A range of issues were discussed in a constructive and collaborative manner, with residents and the Minister exchanging views on potential solutions and identifying areas where further action may be required.

Matters discussed included refurbishment, parking and enforcement, and the frequency of bus services, and concerns relating to chickens.

Residents also highlighted a number of improvements already taking place across the South District. These included the various beautification works undertaken in the area, as well as improvements at Gibdock, particularly the significant reduction in the accumulated grit mountain, which is expected to be completely removed shortly.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss the ongoing repairs to the lifts at Cumberland Terraces. Repairs to one lift have been completed, while work on the second lift is currently underway.

Parking arrangements were another key topic, with residents providing feedback on the measures being implemented during the refurbishment works at St Joseph’s School. At the request of residents, a review of the traffic policy for the area is also underway, with the aim of addressing local concerns and identifying appropriate solutions.

The cleanliness and upkeep of the area were also discussed, with a commitment to engage with Britannia to explore increasing the frequency of cleaning and ensuring that the area continues to be maintained to an appropriate standard.

The meeting forms part of the ongoing engagement between Minister Cortes and South District residents, ensuring that local views are heard and taken into consideration when addressing issues affecting the community.

Minister Cortes emphasised the importance of continued dialogue and collaboration with residents, alongside the relevant Government departments, agencies and service providers, to address local concerns and deliver practical improvements to services, infrastructure and the overall environment of the South District.
