Minister Arias-Vasquez Chairs Business Transition Advisory Group as Treaty Implementation Continues

The Minister for Health, Care and Business, the Hon Gemma Arias-Vasquez MP, chaired a meeting yesterday of the Business Transition Advisory Group at No.6 Convent Place.

This was the second meeting of the Group since the provisional application of the UK-EU Treaty on 15 July 2026, and the first since the new arrangements have had time to settle into day-to-day operation.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from HM Customs as well as the Government’s CEO of Business, together with representatives of the business community.

The Group received updates on the operation of the new customs and border arrangements over the past ten weeks, and reviewed progress on the operational issues raised by businesses at its previous meeting in July.

The Group was also briefed on the Government's package of support measures for businesses during the transition, beginning with the Transaction Tax Deduction Rules published yesterday, with further measures to follow in the coming weeks.

Members discussed the practical experience of their sectors since implementation, including areas where processes are now working well and those where further adjustment may be needed.

Members were also updated on ongoing work to ensure a level playing field for all businesses operating in Gibraltar and to simplify the process of registering and licensing a business.

The Government will continue to monitor implementation closely, provide further guidance to businesses where required, and convene the Group regularly as the new arrangements bed in.

The Minister for Health, Care and Business, the Hon Gemma Arias-Vasquez MP, said:

"Ten weeks on from provisional application, it was important to bring the Group back together to take stock of how the new arrangements are working in practice. I am grateful to HM Customs and officials for the work they continue to do on the ground. Much is now running smoothly, and where businesses have told us things need to work better, we are listening and acting. This Group remains an essential link between Government and the business community, and we will keep meeting, keep engaging, and keep resolving issues as they arise."
