HMS Queen Elizabeth Visits Gibraltar for Public Open Day

British Forces Gibraltar is pleased to announce a Ship Open Day aboard HMS Queen Elizabeth, providing members of the community with a unique opportunity to visit the vessel. The Ship Open Day will be held on Sunday, 25 October 2026.

As part of her ongoing three-month deployment, HMS Queen Elizabeth has departed Belfast and is now sailing to Gibraltar.

Commander British Forces, Commodore Tim Davey RN, said

“HMS QUEEN ELIZABETH opening to visitors presents a unique and rare opportunity for the people of Gibraltar to engage with the Royal Navy’s sailors and cutting-edge capabilities. Given Gibraltar’s longstanding and close relationship with the Royal Navy, the event provides a fitting occasion to strengthen community connections, celebrate our shared history, and showcase the Navy’s role in supporting national security and prosperity both today and in the future.”

The 65,000-tonne Royal Navy aircraft carrier left Belfast on 12 October 2026 following a historic five-day port visit – the first visit by a British aircraft carrier to the Northern Irish capital in 61 years. Gibraltar will now have the opportunity to welcome the nation’s flagship aircraft carrier, providing a valuable chance for the ship’s company to reconnect with the Gibraltarian public and strengthen the longstanding links between the Royal Navy and the local community.

Having sailed from her home port of Portsmouth on 5 September 2026, HMS Queen Elizabeth is currently undertaking a demanding programme of operational training and readiness activity. The carrier is serving as the Afloat Command Platform for NATO’s Allied Reaction Force (ARF), marking the first time a Queen Elizabeth-class carrier has led this high-readiness maritime reaction force.

The ship is conducting advanced warfare training under the Royal Navy’s Fleet Operational Standards and Training (FOST) organisation, including helicopter integration with Chinooks and the development of emerging uncrewed and autonomous technologies. This programme will continue into 2027, culminating in a series of major multinational exercises with NATO allies and partners.

HMS Queen Elizabeth is scheduled to resume her role as the UK’s high-readiness strike carrier and fleet flagship in late 2027.

Tickets to visit the ship are free of charge but limited in number, so please register as soon as possible to avoid missing out. Tickets can be obtained via buytickets.gi.
