Have Your Say on Gibraltar's National Nature Restoration Plan

Gibraltar has enacted the Nature Restoration Act 2026, giving effect to Regulation (EU) 2024/1991 in line with the Government's obligations under the UK-EU Treaty on Gibraltar.

In line with other countries in the EU, Gibraltar will now produce its own National Nature Restoration Plan for the restoration of degraded ecosystems in terrestrial and marine environments. One of the main requirements of the Act is that, by 31 December 2030, at least 20% of ecosystems identified as being in need of restoration in Gibraltar are subject to active, area-based restoration measures.

The Department of the Environment is inviting members of the public to share their views on the restoration and improvement of Gibraltar's natural environment, including areas on land, along the coast and in Gibraltar's waters.

The public consultation will help inform the development of Gibraltar's National Nature Restoration Plan and will contribute to identifying the issues, priorities and initiatives that are most important to our community.

Everyone is encouraged to take part. You do not need to be an expert to contribute, and there are no right or wrong answers. The Department welcomes a wide range of views, comments, suggestions and recommendations.
