A delegation from the Congress of the United States of America is in Gibraltar.
The visit has been organised under the Mutual Educational and Cultural Exchange Act programme by the United Kingdom in coordination with the Government of Gibraltar. Members of the delegation were briefed this morning by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo on the economy of Gibraltar. They later received a second briefing from the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia on the political, constitutional and historical development of Gibraltar.
The delegates then met with the Board of the American Chamber of Commerce in Gibraltar AMCHAM and were later formally welcomed by the Chief Minister during a reception at Grand Battery House.
The two Members of Congress in the delegation, Congressman George Holding and Congresswoman Lois Frankel then joined the Deputy Chief Minister in the laying of wreaths at the American War Memorial.
The visit continues tomorrow with a visit to the University of Gibraltar and other briefings.
