EuroBirdwatch on Saturday
In more than 25 countries, people will observe birds and learn more about nature and the mysterious migration of birds. In most countries, participants will find observation and information posts where knowledge and experiences about birds and nature can be exchanged. SVS/BirdLife Switzerland is acting as the European centre to process the data gathered during this weekend. For more information, please visit:

In Gibraltar, the Gibraltar Ornithological and Natural History Society (GONHS) is the local BirdLife National Partner. GONHS will be celebrating EuroBirdwatch 2007 on next Saturday 6 October, with events centred around the Alameda Gardens and later the Europa Point Marine Observatory.
Activities at the gardens will include:
Bird ringing demonstrations - where birds are caught in mist nets and then measured, weighed and later released (from 8am on the terrace at the Nature Shop).
Bird of prey display - a static display of some of the eagles, hawks, falcons and owls being rehabilitated at our Raptor Unit. Will also include a flying display of one or more birds (from 1030am along the path above the main entrance steps)
Open Day at the Wildlife Park - another chance to see confiscated exotic birds and animals, as well as others kept for captive breeding programmes or educational purposes (entrance is free)
Bird Quiz - with quality nature books as prizes
Radio Gibraltar Road Show - Radio Gibraltar will be hosting one of their popular Road Shows between 11am and 2pm from the area of George Don Gates (main entrance from Grand Parade)
In the afternoon, GONHS will host an Open Day at the Europa Point Marine Observatory, from which visitors can observe seabirds and perhaps cetaceans. Experienced birders will also be on hand to answer any birding questions and provide advice. (3pm-6pm)
Gibraltar boasts an impressive variety of bird species, but it is in constant danger from a range of threats such as over-development, pollution and above all ignorance. By educating the public, and in particular our young people, that GONHS seeks to safeguard and improve the prospects for Gibraltar's bird and other wildlife.
Our co-ordinator for this event is Albert Yome. Please contact Albert on email: ebw@gonhs.org Tel. 54021925 or leave a message for GONHS on Tel. 72639
