The Mental Health issues awareness campaign kicks off with a Sponsored Walk on 19th May 2007and Charity Bingo on Monday 21st May 2007 which are self explanatory.
In addition schools are encouraged to have a 'wear yellow' day on Friday 18th May (The Day before) to create awareness and shops in Main Steet to have a yellow theme on their window displays and encourage their staff to wear yellow on Saturday 19th May.
"We would like to make this a community event and welcome all associations (sporting, charitable, or otherwise) wishing to participate to get in touch with us.
"In fact we want to encourage the General Public to wear Yellow and join us for the whole walk or even parts of it if possible. For those who are less active but wish to support the event we need helpers to man tables with water along the route and a welcoming group at Casemates to cheer all those who have participated and supported the event. We also want to provide cerificates of participation to all the particpants. The route starts at Casemates through Waterport, along Watergardens, behind harbour views, past St Bernards Hospital, along Queensway, Ragged Staff, Rosia Road, up South Pavilion Road, South Barracks, past Schomberg past KGV Hospital, down Europa Road, Trafalgar Cemetary, Main Street and return to Casemates."
Those wishing to join the walk for the final section along Main Street should assemble at Trafalgar Cemetary around 12.00 noon and wait for the walkers to arrive from KGV Hospital before proceeding together to Casemates.
The walk also symbollically connects the Main Hospital with the Psychiatric Hospital and reinforces the World Federation for Mental Health theme "THERE'S NO HEALTH WITHOUT MENTAL HEALTH".
We would also like to mention that we are extremely grateful to all those who are not only supporting us but also encouraging us. A surprizing number of people have welcomed our campaign and feel that Mental Health issues should be given more prominance.
As mentioned, "We want to dispel the myth that nobody cares and take active steps in improving conditions now (not just waiting for a new hospital to be built) and in the future, not just in the hospital but in the community too."
