Same Terms and Conditions as Civil Service for GDC and Govt Owned Companies, says Bossano
In a meeting at transport house the leader of the opposition Joe Bossano committed himself to give GDC employees (Gibraltar Development Corporation) and all other Government owned agencies the same terms and conditions as their counterparts in the civil service including pay and pension rights.
Mr. Bossano also agreed to the following
1) Replacement of staff leaving the service or retiring.
2) Internal vacancies to be trawled internally first, then externally.
3) A training policy programme.
4) Flexible hours for those who would opt for them.
5) A Full time trade union convenor.
6) The option for new entrants to retire at the age of 65 if they wished to.
On the other hand at a later meeting the now acting chief minister would only agree to give GDC employees same pay conditions as their counterparts in the civil service something which would come gradually with time (i.e. something members are not very happy with as they already have long standing grievances still awaiting to be resolved) Mr. Caruana also agreed to extend the retiring age to 65 years.
