It will be a year ago tomorrow when the DoG group was founded. A lot of water has gone under the bridge since then, and a lot of knocking they are now getting from Spain. The following is what the group has to say:
On this marvellous day but one year ago, the Defenders of Gibraltar came into being. We evolved from the GSSNO (Gibraltarian struggle against Spanish Nationalistic Oppression) and very quickly solidified our aim of highlighting Spain’s constant bullying and harassment of our people and our homeland, using the press, social media and pretty much every single peaceful method we could think of.
The Defenders of Gibraltar has come a very long way in just one year of existence. We have achieved many things, but we feel that the best is yet to come. We dream of a day when Gibraltar and its people are no longer threatened by our neighbour - a neighbour which uses all means at its disposal to conduct its medieval campaign designed to repress our existence; a neighbour which wishes to take our home away from us.
We spread the truth, we have humanity, and we never give up or give in. For as long as the Defenders of Gibraltar exist we will continue to highlight the actions of the bully to the world. We will continue to struggle on till that day when Gibraltar and its people are left in peace - our persistence is the very least we can do for our people.
The Defenders of Gibraltar was founded with hope for a better future, and with the idea that only through the will, passion and sheer determination of dedicated individuals could we, as one people, realise that future and stand up to the bully, thus ensuring that our future generations would not have to go through what the current and previous generations have.
So much has the simple spreading of the truth harmed the bully, that its state controlled press has recently even resorted to labelling us, a peaceful pressure group, as 'Ultra-Nationalist Extremist Radicals' and 'Terrorists'. We urge people to take this as a clear sign that we are winning and are on the side of right; Mahatma Ghandi once said:
"First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win"
Thank you to all who have joined our struggle.
Thank you to those who have helped us in our aim in any way shape or form.
Thank you to all political parties, organisations and groups for advice, assistance and words of encouragement. Thanks most of all for treating us with respect.
We would like to dedicate this song to the hard work of tireless individuals in the DoG, and to all those who believe that:
"It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight of the dog"
