"I am very grateful to those Party members who put their name forward for selection as candidates."

The Executive Committee of the Liberal Party last night re-selected its three outgoing MPs to stand again as candidates in the GSLP/Liberal line-up for the coming general election. This followed an internal election process between those interested in standing which took place by secret ballot.

The three successful candidates were the following:

Dr Joseph Garcia, Party Leader

Dr Garcia has been involved in politics for over twenty years and has been a member of Parliament for over twelve years. In the last Parliament he served as Shadow Minister responsible for trade, industry, tourism, heritage, development and planning, civil aviation, telecommunications, the Port and maritime matters.

Steven Linares

Mr Linares is a former teacher and a practicing lawyer. He has been a member of Parliament for over ten years. In the last Parliament he served as Shadow Minister for Government Services, Education, Culture, Youth and later Environment.

Neil Costa

Mr Costa is a barrister who has been a member of the Liberal Party since 1999. In 2007 he was first elected to Parliament and has served as Shadow Minister for Health and Social Services throughout the term.

Commenting on the selection of candidates, the Leader of the Liberal Party Dr Joseph Garcia said:

“I am very grateful to those Party members who put their name forward for selection as candidates. It is relevant to point out that the three people who have been successful already have parliamentary experience over a wide range of portfolios. We are confident that the people of Gibraltar will put their trust in the team that we put forward, together with the GSLP, to form their next Government.”
