UNITE THE UNION ON SUKH
Statements by the District Caretaker Committee and Charles Sisarello
STATEMENT BY DISTRICT CARETAKER COMMITTEE
In response to the recent comments made public by Mr Sukh Khaira in the press.
Unite would like to clarify the following:-
Following its two year term of office, the District Committee of Unite was dissolved two weeks ago following an executive meeting. A caretaker committee has been put in place in the interim until elections for the new committees are held. Nominations for the new branch/work groups will be announced in the near future by Unite.
In the case of Mr Sukh Khaira and in accordance to Unite Rule Book, as he did not stand for election at the time in the G.H.A. and does not represent anyone, he cannot be a part of the caretaker committee, nor will he be eligible to apply for any branch, nor the new District Committee itself.
Unite would also like to thank all those who formed part of the disbanded District Committee for the hard work and commitment given over the last two years.
THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT IS FROM CHARLES SISARELLO
Mr Sukh Khaira is no longer the Chairman of this union. The District Committee was dissolved last week. Mr Sukh Khaira as Chairman did not enjoy the support of any member of the District Committee. He was elected a member of the District Committee as a rep. of the Nursing Section. This year he did not stand for election in the Nursing Section because he would not have been elected. As such a requisite for being a member he has to represent members and he did not represent any member.
As District Chairman he committed a grave mistake, when he told the Gibraltar Chronicle that people should not vote for the G.S.L.P. The District Committee should have ousted him but instead the District Committee although very critical of his action gave him a chance.
Now that he is no longer the Chairman he acts in a vindictive and malicious manner to try and undermine our organization.
All Shop Stewards have incessantly called for his resignation for a long time and they will be pleased to know that he no longer represents Unite.
