GIBRALTAR LIBERALS IN LONDON CONFERENCE

“Who is to authorise and whose is the action?”

The Liberal Party will be represented at an international political conference which takes place in London this week. The two-day event will comprise the Executive Committee meeting of Liberal International and a conference under the theme of “Responsibility to protect”.

The Liberal Party will be represented by Executive Member Troy Jeffries.

The highlight of the first day of the conference will be the 187th meeting of the Executive Committee of Liberal International which will take place at the National Liberal Club in Whitehall. The Gibraltar Liberals are a full voting member of the organisation and as such have a seat on the Executive.

The Executive will deal with the business of Liberal International and will include reports from the President, the Secretariat and applications for full and observer membership. There will be a number of discussion sessions including a fringe meeting entitled “Making European elections more European”.

The second day of the conference, which will take place at Chatham House, has been organised by the British Group of Liberal International and the UK Liberal Democrats. There will be a session on responsibility to protect in action as seen from different perspectives. A second session on the challenges of implementing responsibility to protect will pose the question “Who is to authorise and whose is the action?”

Liberal International, which was founded in Oxford in 1947, is the world-wide federation of Liberal political parties. It is made of up 60 full member parties and organisations, along with 25 observer parties from all over the world, many of whom are in Government in their respective countries.
