Soldiers from a visiting Royal Signals Regiment, have been hard at work in Gibraltar during the past week, carrying out a number of community projects.

The soldiers have been involved in clean up and refurbishment operations of Princess Caroline’s Battery and the Military Heritage Centre.

The tasks, including weeding planted areas, re-painting and the general cleaning of both sites, have now been completed.

Additionally, members of the Northern Ireland-based 225 Signal Squadron have also been tidying up the Witham’s Road cemetery which had lain derelict for many years.

 
The lead officer on the Princess Caroline’s Battery project has been Lt Teddy Tippett, with Lt Craig Sumner co-ordinating the effort between the various projects. The team at the cemetery was led by Sgt Lee Moore.

The Squadron is in Gibraltar for a month carrying out the duties of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment who are currently training in the UK.

Minister for Tourism, the Hon Samantha Sacramento, has welcomed the contribution to the community by the Royal Signals unit.

Minister Sacramento said: “I am delighted that the visiting troops have volunteered to do this important community work. The Gibraltar Government has made sterling progress in recent times to recover much of our heritage including military sites, and we are extremely grateful that the British Army, which has such close ties to Gibraltar, has wanted to collaborate in these restoration projects. It is good to see that these sites, once derelict, have now been refurbished and incorporated into the overall tourist product.”
