Officers of the Operations Division have, on Wednesday the 17th of February, arrested a nineteen year old local man on suspicion of being in possession of a firearm.

The man was released on bail following the search of a residence which led to the seizure of a BB gun case, pellets associated with a BB gun and a radio transceiver.

In a separate incident a thirty five year old local man was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a firearm following a search of a local residence on Tuesday the 16th of February 2016. A number BB gun type pellets were also seized. He was later released on bail.

The public are reminded that possession of imitation firearms can constitute an offence as does the possession of BB guns. These weapons are capable of causing serious injury.

In addition such weapons can be easily confused by the public and police officers alike, who may believe them to be real firearms. This can have serious consequences.
