The Calpe house Charitable Trust has today issued a statement in which it says that it ‘is hugely touched by the fantastic response to the “Calpe House Needs Your Help” Campaign, which was launched on their Flag Day, 18th December 2016.’

The campaign has been launched to raise money towards the refurbishment costs for the Grade II listed buildings which have been purchased at Norfolk Square, London. Albert Poggio OBE GMH has announced that work started on the new buildings on Monday 11th January 2016. Once refurbished these properties will provide 38 en suite rooms and improved facilities, including a large common room, which it is hoped, will provide a much needed focal point for patients and families to socialise. Poggio emphasised the invaluable support which has been offered throughout this project by the Chief Minister and his Govt.
The Guest Speakers underlined the importance of Calpe House, which has provided accommodation for patients in London on over 5000 visits to UK since inception.
Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, said he wholeheartedly supported the Trustees of The Calpe House Charitable Trust and asked the community to ‘dig deep’, just as they had when the original Calpe House was proposed 30 years ago.
Minister Joseph Bossano, who has supported the Calpe House concept since inception, also spoke and expressed his support for the new campaign.
The Trust is grateful to Daniel Feetham who has pledged one month’s parliamentary salary to the appeal.
Minister for Health, Dr John Cortes, highlighted the fact that even while the GHA hopes to be able to provide more and more courses of treatment in Gibraltar for patients, advances in medicine are such that there will always be a need for accommodation in London.
The Trust is hoping the people of Gibraltar will pull together and ‘dig deep’ so that they can ensure the property is available to all those who require a ‘Home from Home’ in London in their time of need.
In just the few weeks since the launch of the appeal, the Trust has received very kind offers of support, including businesses offering fundraising initiatives of their own. If anyone has any ideas for events they would like to see in Gibraltar or fundraising initiatives, they are encouraged to send these in for consideration.
For individuals wishing to make a lasting contribution, the Trust are inviting them to set up a monthly payment, which will provide the Trust not only with immediate funding for the refurbishment, but also a long term budget to aid them in planning for the future.
