Following a promotional board held by Her Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar’s Human Resources Department, several Gibraltar Fire and Rescue Service personnel have been promoted.


Sub Officer Jason Mesilio has been promoted to the rank of Station Officer. He joined the organisation in January 1986 and has since acquired a variety of skills and attended numerous courses in Incident Command.  Mesilio is a qualified Rope Rescue Instructor and has played a prominent role in the implementation of the GFRS Incident Command System. Station Officer Mesilio will now take Command of Red Watch.
Sub Officer Edgar Ramirez has been promoted to Station Officer.  Ramirez joined the Service in March 2002. Amongst the many courses attended he successfully completed the demanding Hazardous Material and Environmental Protection Officer’s (HMEPO) course at The Fire Service College in the UK. He has also played an important part in the implementation of the GFRS Incident Command System. Station Officer Ramirez will perform his duties as Line Manager within Blue Watch.
Leading Firefighter Kevagn Estella has been promoted to Sub Officer.  Estella first entered the Service in August 2000. Having attended numerous local and overseas courses he now forms part of the organisation’s Blue Light instructor’s complement and has been tasked with developing the Brigade’s operational personnel emergency driving skills.  Estella is also fully involved as a first responder trainer and rope rescue supervisor.
Leading Firefighter Jared Olivero has been posted to Red Watch after being successfully promoted to the rank of Sub Officer. He joined the Service in March 2003 and as one of the GFRS’s Breathing Apparatus (BA) instructors  Olivero has played a pivotal role when developing operational crews in BA firefighting and search and rescue procedures by disseminating recently published UK Fire & Rescue Service’s Operational Guidance Documents.
Leading Firefighter Nicholas Poggio has been promoted to the rank of Sub Officer.  Poggio entered the GFRS in September 2003 and has attended various courses. He is currently responsible for supervising the servicing and testing of all fire service front line ladders, and is also one of the organisation’s Rope Rescue Supervisors. Sub Officer Poggio has been posted to White Watch.
Her Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar has expressed its best wishes to these officers and the best of luck when leading their crews through this new phase in their careers.
