The Ministry of Equality is proud to mark the Special Olympics Global Week of Inclusion, taking place the week beginning the 20th of July, by illuminating the Moorish Castle in red from 20th to 23rd July (inclusive).

The red illumination reflects the official colour of the Special Olympics organisation and recognises the outstanding work carried out by Special Olympics Gibraltar in promoting inclusion, opportunity and empowerment for people with disabilities through sport.

The initiative also forms part of the Ministry's recognition of Disability Pride Month, which is celebrated each July to promote the rights, dignity, achievements and contributions of persons with disabilities, while challenging stigma and encouraging a more inclusive society.

Minister for Equality, the Hon Christian Santos GMD MP, said:

"The Special Olympics Global Week of Inclusion is a powerful reminder that everyone deserves the opportunity to participate, thrive and be valued within our community. By lighting the Moorish Castle in red, we recognise the exceptional work of Special Olympics Gibraltar and reaffirm our commitment to building a society where inclusion is not simply an aspiration, but a reality. As we also mark Disability Pride Month, we celebrate the achievements of persons with disabilities and the richness that diversity brings to Gibraltar."
