The Department of the Environment, Heritage & Climate Change would like to inform anglers that juvenile Bluefin tuna are currently present within British Gibraltar Territorial Waters. These fish can easily be confused with smaller pelagic species such as Horse Mackerel.

Juvenile Bluefin tuna must be handled carefully so as not to damage them and quickly released. Not only is keeping them illegal but it also prevents them from growing to maturity and breeding. Juvenile Bluefin tuna are dark blue on top and grey below. They display dark vertical lines along the length of their body as soon as they are out of the water.

The Department wishes to remind anglers that there is a minimum catch size of 30kgs for such species under the Marine Protection Regulations 2014 and it is an offence to keep undersized fish.
