The latest edition of the Youth Commonwealth Games kicked off on Tuesday in the Caribbean with an action packed fun filled ceremony in Nassau, Bahamas.

This is first time in over 50 years that the Games movement has been in the Caribbean. Gibraltar's debut was in 1958 in Cardiff, Wales in the British & Empire Games

The ceremony welcomed over a thousand young athletes from around the commonwealth for six days of action with nine sports on offer. Flag Bearer for Team Gibraltar was Swimmer Matt Savitz who is competing in his 2nd Youth Games.

The Queen’s Baton also made an appearance as part of its journey towards Gold Coast, Australia.

For Gibraltar the sporting action began on Wednesday for 4 members of our swimming team.

Matt Savitz and Aidan Carroll competed in the 50m butterfly heats. Both went under the national record, Aidan clocked 26.89s, while matt registered 26.78s.

David Hitchcock swam in the 200m free with a time of 2.03.93 and Elijah Cruz came home in 1.07.96 in the backstroke.

The team continued their endeavours on Thursday with more action in the pool and a first outing on the track in the athletics.
