Albert Isola, Minister with responsibility for Financial Services, is in Beijing this week for a series of meetings and presentations focusing on, but not limited to, insurance based opportunities in Gibraltar for Chinese companies.

This visit follows on from significant ground work carried out by Gibraltar Finance with Willis Towers Watson in China.

Willis Towers Watson is a global multinational risk management, insurance brokerage and advisory solutions company with a well established presence in Gibraltar. Willis China have coordinated a series of meetings for the Gibraltar contingent with substantial Chinese corporations who have expressed an interest in Gibraltar.

Minister Isola will also be hosting a series of events during his time there and will meet with the Insurance Regulatory Authority in Beijing.

The Minister is being accompanied by Mr Michael Ashton, the insurance specialist at Gibraltar Finance, and Mr Jason Cruz from the Gibraltar Hong Kong office. Mr Bruno Callaghan of Willis Gibraltar, who has been instrumental in coordinating this visit, will also accompany the Minister.

Minister Isola said: "This is an excellent example of an initiative developed in conjunction with and at the invitation of a particular Gibraltar financial services firm with a massive presence in China. They have 32 offices across China and have been most receptive and supportive of this initiative. We have all invested time and resources to pull this visit together. I am most grateful to Mr Callaghan and the Willis China team for this opportunity and would encourage other firms to consider this as a means of leveraging on their international footprint to benefit Gibraltar business."
