A group of over twenty German nationals were guests at No6 Convent Place yesterday morning, where they were briefed by the Deputy Chief Minister, the Hon Dr Joseph Garcia.

The group is from the Europa Zentrum Baden-Württemberg, which studies European Integration issues and provides information on European integration to local government and other agencies in the state of Baden-Württemberg.

In the past, members of the group have participated in similar study trips to Prague, Bratislava, Vienna, Ljubljana, Zagreb, Sarajevo, the Baltic states and Lisbon, as well as visiting the European Institutions in Strasbourg and Brussels.

The visitors were particularly interested in the current perception of the EU in Gibraltar and the potential impact on Gibraltar of the Brexit decision.

Commenting on the visit, the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia said:

It is important to spread the word about Gibraltar to different sectors of political opinion in Europe, particularly in Germany. There is considerable interest in the position of Gibraltar in the European Union following the 96% vote to remain. The Government is always keen to explain the potential impact that Brexit could have and to highlight the pro-European credentials of the people of Gibraltar at the same time.

The briefing was followed by a lively question and answer session.
