BBC Radio 4 is bringing its Sony award-winning series Mark Steel’s in Town to Gibraltar on Thursday 22nd September, for a recording in the spectacular St Michael’s Cave.

Each year comedian, columnist and author Mark Steel visits six towns, delving into the area’s history, culture and eccentricities to discover the ingredients that make it distinctive, and then performing a tailor-made comedy show about the town in front of a local audience. Now in its seventh series, the episode in Gibraltar will be the first recorded in a British Overseas Territory.

Mark is very excited to visit Gibraltar, he thinks it’s a fascinating place and is looking forward to discovering the quirks, characteristics and history that have made it what it is today.

Previous series have seen Mark record shows in over forty-two interesting and unusual places including the Isle of Portland in Dorset; Kirkwall, the capital of Orkney; and the Channel Isle of Alderney.

Stuart Morris, a historian who helped to provide Mark with research for the Isle of Portland show said: "I was amazed that he should have absorbed so much of the island's history in the short space of time.

The seventh series of the show, which begins on BBC Radio 4 on Wednesday 7th September at 6.30pm, will see Mark travel to Colchester, Stockport, Hebden Bridge, Lynton, Kingston upon Thames and Gibraltar.

Mark will perform live in Gibraltar on Thursday 22nd September 2016 at 8pm (the episode will broadcast on BBC Radio 4 on 12th October 2016 at 6.30pm).
