Last week the Year 1 children and teachers at St Joseph’s First School went to school dressed as Neanderthals to support their learning of the topic. Students thoroughly enjoyed re-enacting the life of Neanderthal people by making cave paintings and crafting a mammoth using creative resources.

One of the highlights of the day was the visit by authors Maja Brodschneider Kotnik and Kiki Klimt. The authors of the Neanderthal story “Gibb and the Birds” came to meet the children and left some colouring activities of the book’s characters as well as some extra copies of their book. The children had a great, fun-filled educational day and thoroughly enjoyed all the diverse activities that the teachers had organised for them!

Also last week, Year 5 students from St Joseph's Middle School presented a cheque for £500 to Pathway Through Pain. The money was collected after the children had participated in a "Jogathon" - a made up word meaning continuous jogging kept up in relay fashion. Charity Chairperson and Trustee, Darren Grech, was very grateful to the children and teachers for the very generous donation: "the money will no doubt help children needing specialised care in the UK and we are immensely thankful to the children and teachers for all the hard work."
