As often happens at certain times of year, the present demand on beds at St Bernard’s Hospital is high and it has become necessary to introduce additional beds in in St Bernard’s Hospital and Mount Alvernia in order to cope with current demands and minimize impact on the hospital’s activities.

The GHA and Unite will work together to ensure adequate manning levels are maintained in order to safely cope with the added pressures and to be able to continue to provide the excellent service provided by Gibraltar’s health care professionals. 

In the longer term, the opening of the new dementia day and residential units at the former Royal Naval Hospital site, details of which are being finalized, will prevent similar difficulties in the foreseeable future.
