The Gibraltar Health Authority and the Department of Education will be holding a Workshop for Senior Teachers, titled Training for Health, at St. Bernard’s Hospital on Thursday 17th March 2016.

This Workshop aims to bring senior teachers up to date with knowledge and advice on everyday health matters, which they are likely to encounter while working in the school environment.

The content has been designed to cover as many subject areas as possible. This will include diverse topics like Healthy Eating, Diabetes, Infections, Allergies, Asthma, HIV, Epilepsy, Drugs, Addictions, Sexual Health and Mental Health.

The sessions will be delivered predominantly by GHA staff who have particular experience and knowledge in the subject, with support also from the Drug rehabilitation Service.

Such workshops have not been held for some years but have been much appreciated by those who attended in the past.

All delegates to the Workshop are sponsored by the Department of Education.

Minister for Education, the Hon Gilbert Licudi QC, said: “This is an example of how an inter-agency, multi-disciplinary approach to promoting physical and mental health in schools can help create the right sort of environment in which our children can thrive and be happy.

Minister for Health, the Hon Dr John Cortes, commented: “We have a great deal of expertise in Gibraltar, and within the GHA specifically, on a wide range of health issues as they affect children and adolescents. This is a great way for this expertise to be shared with educational experts with a view to improving the journey of children and young people through schools and the community.
