RGP Recruit Class 01/16, in the presence of Commissioner of Police Eddie Yome and Minister for Tourism, Equality, Social Services and Housing, Samantha Sacramento, presented a cheque for £5778.04 to Damian Broton, of local Drugs Awareness charity Stay Clean Gibraltar Group.
The monies presented were the proceeds of the recent Family Fun Day held at Casemates Square, which was organised by the RGP recruits currently in training.
The Commissioner praised the efforts of the recruits and the support received from the RGP training staff in the organisation of the event, and also took the opportunity to thank the Stay Clean volunteers and staff from HM Government of Gibraltar’s Community Drugs & Alcohol Team, who supported the event with their awareness and information stand on the day, as well Radio Gibraltar’s James Neish and Davina Barbara for entertaining everyone with their excellent live radio road show.
Commissioner Yome highlighted the importance of including a community project within the recruit’s 21 week training programme, adding that the event’s success and monies raised could simply not have been possible without the overwhelming support that had been received from the community, in particular, the numerous sponsors who had contributed generously with prizes for the successful raffle that was held on the day.
Minister Sacramento praised the role of Stay Clean and the RGP in working in partnership with the Drug & Alcohol Rehabilitation awareness team of the Care Agency, in highlighting awareness and tackling an issue which is clearly of concern to our community. She thanked everybody involved and stated she looked forward to a continued partnership and future initiatives.
