GBSA Team Snooker League Week 7
After a long holiday break play resumed in earnest last Wednesday. In the middle of town Team Queensway tin-hatted the boys from Casino Calpe; while up on Flat Bastion Road the Astoria team got it’s tin-hat from the Cue Ball guys! As turn-ups go, on Devils Tower Road, St Bernard’s three two win over the Piranha Designs.com was a good’n; even better than the Astoria too team’s win over the Med Rowing Club by the same score
Starting in St Bernard’s Catholic, Social Club on Zoca Flank. Team Queensway’s Paul Heard cued off against the Casino’s Douglas Balloqui. Despite Douglas’s resistance Paul pulled away and went on to win by 46 points to 18. Charlie Victor, for the Queensway, beat Freddie Poggio 64 points to 15 before Heath Watson, selected Queensway’s man-of-the-match, made it three frames to nil. Heath beat the Casino’s star man, Ramesh Samtani, 63 points to 35; in a very cagey frame of snooker. After a fine supper, enjoyed by all, Larry Wilding beat Charlie Bear 54 points to 13!
The final frame and the six points went to Mike Scott when he beat Sean Rumbado 49 points to 38 after a very spirited come-back fight from Sean.
Full points to Team Queensway and well-played all!
At the top of The Rock, in The Astoria R&F Club, Pepé Santos came up against an in-form Ernest Clinton and lost 23 points to 55. one nil to the Cue Ball. Paco Rumbado then played Chris Shimidzu and was beaten 11 points to 64; two nil! The Astoria’s star man, Elio Monteverde, up against Michael Zammitt, needed the black to win. He got it but went in-off! A good win for Michael at 33 points to 45 and three nil to the Cue Ball. Alain Gatt fared no better against Jonathan Collado, losing by 16 points to 71; to make it four nil. In the final frame Brian Garcia went down to the Cue Ball’s man-of-the-match, Albert Perez, in another close-fought frame at 28 points to 49.
A good six points for the Cue Ball and a second great game of snooker – well played all!
In the Cue Ball centre, on Devils Tower Road, Francis Becerra, for Piranha Designs.com (the hosts), was surprised and defeated by Peter Bensadon (for the saints) by 21 points to 70. A magnificent victory for Peter which set up his team and earned him the man-of-the-match! Lawrence Sisarello met a similar fate 36 points to 57 against Fernando Monteverde – to make it two nil to the saints! Jeremy Gomez got one back by just beating Harry Ward at the end by 52 points to 47; and Sean Galligan, the Designer’s star man, levelled the frames when he beat James Neish, more convincingly, 58 to 22! At two frames all Charlie Lara took on Adrian Wink and the saint toughed it out the hard way on the later colours. Charlie losing 23 points to 43! A great four points for the St Bernard’s team and a tough game for all concerned!
Over in The Mediterranean Rowing Club the Med’s star man, Peter Buttigieg, set his team off to a great start when he beat Antonio Cavilla 48 points to 39. Peter was 33 points behind when Tony went in-off the black. There was no stopping Peter thereafter! However Peter Valarino then lost to Kevin Dalli, the Astoria’s man-of-the-match, who was potting mercilessly, 11 points to 58 and the Med lost the momentum! Tony Dellipiani and Tich Olivero got to the black ball only for Tony to pot the black and then go in-off! A horrible way to lose (aren’t they all?).Wilfred Smart came up against Dave Smith and despite Wilf’s best efforts Dave took the frame 55 points to 30! In the final frame the Med’s new boy Chris Nuñez, potting beautifully, gave Dougy Cooper no quarter and won by 51 points to 14!
A good win and a useful 4 points for the Astoria too!
Next week we will see how well the Both Worlds’ guys practiced!
