Crystal Ecstasy Seized in Gibraltar

In the last six months the RGP has detected two persons in possession of an illegal drug commonly known as Crystal Ecstasy. This is a variation of ecstasy and can be found in powder or crystal form and is much more powerful than the ecstasy in tablet form. Research has shown that only a very small amount of the crystal ecstasy can be lethal and will affect the user in a much quicker time.

This substance has also been mistaken for Cocaine and the danger is that as small amounts are very powerful the user can overdose thinking he/she is having Cocaine when infact they are having Crystal Ecstasy.

The amounts seized in Gibraltar are small a total of 16 grams however as stated only very small amounts can be very dangerous. Both persons arrested for these drugs are now awaiting for their cases to be dealt with in court.

The RGP would like to warn everybody about the dangers of abusing drugs and especially those drugs that are chemically based and the user cannot verify what he/she is taking. The consumption of these drugs can be lethal.

The police will continue to fight against the misuse of drugs and will spare no effort in bringing to justice any person involved in the selling of drugs. However the fight against drugs misuse is also based on awareness and education and therefore the public needs to be aware of the dangers of these substances.
