Allow me to be pedantic and insist on the contents of Article x of Utrecht, the one that Spaniards deny us, even the right to exist.
The exact words are, ‘ The Catholic King does hereby, for himself, his heirs and successors, yield to the Crown of Great Britain etc, I therefore stand to be corrected, though in those days people were mere expendable chattels and therefore of no consequence in matters of State. Question if given in perpetuity to the Crown and neither to the Government and/or people of Great Britain it follows that Gibraltar could (I do not mean that we want this) take the road to Independence within the Commonwealth, with our Sovereign as Head of state and Utrecht would not have been violated.
Having expressed the above, I must congratulate the Chief Minister’s forceful speech in New York. I, not being involved in the niceties of Political jargon or Diplomacy, feel he should have gone the whole hog, after exposing the Spanish hypocrisy and advising the Chairman of the Committee of 24 that since Gibraltar has at no time received any form of support from them but instead continuous procrastination, our aspirations are very simple, offer us any of the three known packages available to others and failing this note in the Official Records of the Committee that Gibraltar will gladly remain a Colony rather than be further abused by others who should forever be grateful that Gibraltar was there when needed to aid and protect a fleeing member of their Ruling Dynasty.
