Paul Isola is relaxed but at the same time extremely excited about what the future has in store for him. Paul is the singer of London based Metal band Breed 77 and is taking some time off before all hell breaks loose.

Breed 77 have a whirlwind tour ahead of them and could be travelling around the world promoting their new album. The month of August was supposed to be a holiday for all of them but they were delighted to be playing in Gibraltar.

The band has played four times in Gibraltar with previous concerts having been at the Victoria Stadium, Latino´s on the Beach and the Fair Pavilion, but this time was even more special.

“Every time we play in Gibraltar it gets better, we are all really happy with the reaction we got and hopefully next time it is even better.”

The band also enjoyed playing a free concert in Casemates Square, a venue that Paul feels is perfect for local bands to play at,

“Casemates is good because of its centrality. It is perfect for the public. Other venues like the Victoria Stadium and Naval Ground are more suited to commercial events.”

Being ambassadors for Gibraltar for quite some time now has given Breed 77 much satisfaction but what was surprising to them was the support they have received from the Government. In all fairness it has been a long time coming!

Nearing the release of their third studio album “In My Blood”, Breed 77 are looking forward to promoting what they have recorded and are also eager to show the general public that they are much more than just a Metal band. With the new album having a much more mainstream feel to it you can definitely see where they are coming from in terms of influences and ambition.

With the music industry constantly changing it is important that bands that are not “brand names” like Iron Maiden, Pearl Jam and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, adapt and survive. Breed 77 has done just that, they have adapted their style and because of this they will survive. The most impressive aspect of this “adaptation” is that they have not compromised themselves and still maintain all the elements that make them so unique.

“Alive” was the first single off the album and although it failed to make an impression on the top 40 it did make the top 10 in independent charts such as the Rock Chart. The songs progress is a reflection of the significant changes that has come over the music industry in the UK.

Bands signed to Independent labels are finding it increasingly hard to get enough publicity to promote their songs. On the other side of the pond the Major Labels are able to pump money into advertising and get their artists onto every radio station and popular music program.

It appears that even radio, once a safe haven for lesser known bands, has joined in turning the corporate wheels of the music industry. Radio 1 now follows recommended play lists and the role of the DJ is almost obsolete as they no longer have to think for themselves but rather hit “play”. Paul cites so called “Alternative” DJ, Zane Lowe as a prime example,

“Since he joined Radio 1, Zane Lowe just follows the play list. When he was on MTV he had more freedom.”

Breed 77 have found that the best way to get their music heard is by getting on a tour bus and playing anywhere and everywhere they possibly can. Sept 10th is this starting block for a month long tour around the UK that will hopefully continue with a support slot for an US based Metal band. In the New Year tours of Australia, Japan and even South Africa are being finalised. Something Paul is really looking forward to,

“It has to be one of the best things about being in a band; you get to go places that you wouldn’t normally be able to get to. South Africa is another corner of the World.”

So, new album out, touring Europe, Asia, America and Oceania! Paul Isola and Breed 77 are once again embarking on a year long journey to get their music heard.
