WINDMILLS & HOT AIR
Like Don Quijote Señor Moratinos the Spanish Foreign Minister made some statements on television post Cordoba which did not coincide totally with the document signed at his home town in September. Signing papers is one thing and keeping to the script is not strength of the Spanish psycho.

However culture is what the Institute Cervantes is all about. One of Señor Moratinos aims is to benefit Gibraltar when the Institute Cervantes is established primarily to better understand and learn the Spanish language and culture and eventually for Gibraltar students to enrol in Spanish universities and qualify as well.

Qualifications require students to take exams and in Spain, not very long ago, success depended on individual “padrinos”, nationality and political persuasion, undeclared of course. In fact there is a well known case of a young Gibraltarian student who was enrolled at Malaga University who was told by her tutor at the time of the HMS Tireless saga that if the Tireless did not leave Gibraltar he would “catear” her (fail in English) just like that.

And most Gibraltarians also know that in the late sixties and early seventies when there were regular Spanish student demonstrations in Madrid asking for greater freedoms the University Professors (most of whom owed their jobs to Franco) made sure those students who took part in the demonstrations failed their exams. Just like that. What is more Señor Moratinos who was a University Professor before he became a top banana in the PSOE Party well knows that this is the truth. Albeit he was not one of the Franco loving professors.

So lets have a bit of real culture not that which existed and probably some still exists. If not think UEFA.

Regretfully Spain – not us – has still a long long way to go to convince Gibraltarians of their genuine goodwill. If that can be proven through the Instituto Cervantes all the better.

TRIPARTITE
Never has Gibraltar been subjected to so much “fertilize” splashed about by all and sundry and political parties in particular. The Cordoba agreement should be put to bed once and for all. For goodness sake!

If our memories serve us right did we not hear the Chief Minister say that in negotiations concessions have to be made? For what it’s worth the Cordoba agreement, in my view, is a good one for all. Full stop.

And if anyone wants to know why not ask the Chief Minister what concessions he made, if any, when negotiating the contents of the agreement.

ALLO ALLO
Crikey! A prisoner, Algerian, escaped from his police escort at Moorish Castle and was at large overnight and most of the day despite the fuzz mounting a massive search. Like everything excuses fly around and we citizens are not told what the coppers are doing or will do to get it right for our safety. Supposing the escaped prisoner was a violent criminal, what then?

For all the walkie talkies, truncheons, handcuffs a copper carries and makes him look like a satellite station in orbit some can’t do an effective job and deposit a prisoner in clink.

How much did the search and arrest operation cost in man hours and in kudos. Not counting the stress, anxiety and worry of the neighbours especially at Moorish Castle Estate.

This is a serious matter. Depends on what you call a serious matter. There is a report that a police force in the UK arrested a citizen for saying that a police horse might be gay which the Police force concerned considered as causing offence and distress to both the Police officer and the horse. Don’t laugh this is true.

Losing a prisoner is no laughing matter and it occurs to any sensible person to question whether the proper procedures were explained, followed and implemented.
In order to stop this and other incidents happening the Commissioner of Police should KICK ARSE.

NOT AGAIN
A little birdie told me a few weeks ago that the Town Hall of La Linea and its Mayor Jump on the Bandwagon Juarez might have to explain some funny aspects about Municipal land sales.

It appears that the La Linea PSOE opposition party in the Town Hall is asking the Andalusian Anti-corruption Police Agency which is investigating the Marbella corruption scandal to look into the sale of Finca and listed villa called villa Juliana to a municipal development company called EMVSVIC which is controlled by the Mayor. The sale price was 36 million Euros and lots of La Linea politicians are asking where the cash has gone and / or how it’s been spent. It is calculated that 461 thousand euros has been illegally used to pay staff salaries. Two officers of the anti-corruption unit have questioned the Secretary and Treasurer of the Town Hall, who have provided many documents and will have to submit statements of accounts and confirm how the money was receive and spent and who authorised it.

It looks as though Jump on the Bandwagon Juarez Mayor of Bankrupt La Linea is up the creek without a paddle. To cap it all this Political clown who can’t pay his debts and owes the Fire Brigade Consortium 1.2m Euros is claiming that the Fire Brigade are using political muscle against him. Pom Poff at his best.
