Tickets for 'Return to the Kasbah', to be held on Thursday 31st May at the Alameda Open Air Theatre, are now on sale at The Nature Shop at Casemates. The Performance organised jointly by the Gibraltar Youth Service, The JM Memorial Foundation and Mount Productions is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund Interreg IIIA - Gibraltar/Morocco programme 2000 to 2006.
'As part of the project a series of workshops, performances and school visits by musicians, artisans and residents of the Cheshire Home in Tangier, have been arranged,' said Mark Montovio. 'The week of Moroccan Arts and Culture will be launched with the official opening of ‘Treasures of the Kasbah', an exhibition at the Casemates vaults bringing together traditional arts and crafts from Morocco.
The exhibition will be open to the public from Wednesday 30th May to Friday 8th June from 10am to 6pm on weekdays and 11am to 1pm on Saturdays. During the week the Dar el Hana residents and the Moroccan musicians will be busy visiting schools and sharing experiences with our school children who are excited about the visits.'
Rehearsals for the show are well underway and models as young as three, to ladies in their sixties, will be taking part and showing off a range of traditional and more contemporary Moroccan Wear. 'The very talented and versatile Jade Federico has developed a fusion collection called 'Kasbah meets High Street' and the more experienced models from Mount Productions will be breathing life into them,' added Mark. 'We are delighted with the effort put into the week by so many volunteers and we are looking forward to sharing experiences with all those who share a passion for Moroccan culture.'
